Repentance

Repentance From Sin

What does it mean to repent?

Simply put, repentance means a “change of mind”.

We must change our mind concerning sin and turn from it in our hearts.

If you have a desire for this, it means God Himself is leading you in this direction as the Scripture makes clear:

Romans 2:4 says, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”

The goodness of God is what causes us to want to turn from sin and serve God.

Repentance is when we say “NO!” to sin and “Yes!” to God.

Let’s not confuse this, though!

Repentance doesn’t mean you in yourself have any power to change!

It’s when we simply change our mind on sin that God grants us the power to actually fulfil the intent of our heart to turn from sin.

Repentance is when we come to God and say, “I’ve had enough. I don’t want to live this way anylonger… not because things are bad or good, but because my sin has seperated me from God. I want to leave sin behind and serve God with all that I am!”

That’s Repentance.

Repentance is a change of one’s mind whereby God then grants that person the power to fulfil that change of mind!

The very desire to repent comes from God!

The very reason one wants to turn from sin in his heart is because of God’s goodness!

If a person is unconcerned with sin it shows that they really aren’t serious about serving God, because Scripture says in 2 Corinthians 7:10, “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”

Do you have godly sorrow?

In other words, “Do you want to change…really change?”

If so, this is godly sorrow!

This means that God is working in your heart to bring you to freedom from sin and complete and total forgiveness!

Simply put, repentance means a “change of mind”.
