Sin’s consequences
One of the consequences of sin is spiritual seperation from God (spiritual death):
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Another consequence of sin is being excluded from God’s Kingdom (being a Child of God and entering into Heaven): Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are clearly revealed, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, fightings, jealousies, angers, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revelings, and things like these; of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
The ultimate dwelling place of sinners is eternal damnation: Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, will have their part in the Lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
It sounds harsh, but just one sin seperates us from God and excludes us from being His Children…. thsi is because God is Light, Love, Holiness and is altogether seperated from sinful humanity; He can’t tolerate sin in His Presence so He must punish those who practice sin.
As sinful humans, we like to excuse our sin by saying things like, “God is a forgiving God; He understands.”
But, is this true?
