The Cross

Most all of us know that Jesus Christ died on a Cross

But very few truly understand why He did this.

First, the Bible says that it was God, out of Love, who sent His Only Begotten Son:

John 3:16-21 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices truth comes to the Light so that his works may be revealed, that they exist, having been worked in God.

Jesus Christ, God’s own Son, was perfectly obedient to the Heavenly Father… He committed no sin and lived a perfectly Holy life.

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

1 Peter 2:21-25 For you were not called to this? For Christ also suffered on our behalf, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps, He who did no sin, nor was guile found in His mouth, who when He was reviled did not revile in return. When He suffered, He did not threaten, but gave Himself up to Him who judges righteously. He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that dying to sins, we might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed. For you were as sheep going astray, but now you are turned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin.

God sent His Sinless Son for His enemies… not for people who were His Friends already!

Romans 5:8 But God commends His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

Why did Jesus Christ have to die on a Cross though?

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ died on the Cross because God required that a perfectly innocent life be given for guility sinners:

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood. And I have given it to you on the altar to make an atonement for your souls. For it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul.

Because sin brings spiritual death, God requires that a life be given as payment.

Jesus Christ had to give His life for spiritually dead sinners!

What a price He paid!

The Sinless Lamb of God gave His very life to save sinners!

He shed His own Blood to bring you and I into right relationship with God!

The Blood of Jesus Christ is the only rememdy for sinners because He’s the only One who lived a perfect and Sinless life!

1 Peter 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot

Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that takes away our sins!

John 1:29 The next day John sees Jesus coming to him and says, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

So we see that God’s required the death of His own Son to save mankind from eternal damnation!

This is the Love of God in action, that He would send His own Son to die on the Cross for sinners!

But God commends His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
